./morFrom/.

The duo ./morFrom/. (CH) started their cooperation in 2004, after having recognized their interest in Soundscapes and Soundspaces, Music Concrète and Punk.

Julien Baillod (guitar, electronix) and Jeroen Visser (organ, electronix) made their first ./morFrom/. Album ‘Here & There’ in 2005, and were touring and doing special projects for film, art installations and headphone festivals since.
Two albums followed, 'Around the Corner' and 'Beyond the Black Stump', before other musical paths were investigated in other constellations.

The result of an ever moving antagonism between the musical side of everyday “public domain” sound, and the sound
aspect of a musical instrument. ./morFrom/. is about the investigation of this intriguing perspective.
Centered around two laptops, partially as playback machine, or as a sound buffer/moulder, audio material is caught, formed, bent, looped, thrown in, combined back with specially chosen binaural soundscapes into an ever changing sculpture of sound, performed live!
The CD was recorded live on a 2-track digital portable studio in Amsterdam during November 2004. Recordings were not overdubbed in any way. Stereo editing was the only processing done when compiling “here&there”.
Some frequency/volume balancing was applied when the CD was mastered.

around the corner 2009

Balancing on the edge where sound turns into music, and vice versa, ./morFrom/. corners eight pieces on their second CD, displaying a provocative morph between  impro and music concrète.
A choice of archived field recordings are put up against improvised guitar, organ and electronix and together form an intriguing and humorous musical conversation.
The result, varying from droney to bumpy and lightweight to gloomy, is surprising, tumbling from completely free into small arrangements and back.

beyond the black stump 2012

On their new CD ‘beyond the black stump’, ./morFrom/. makes another step ahead. While having a live street-feed of a pair of omni-microphones on headphones they interpreted elements of the experienced listening directly into their improvisation.
The resulting 4-track recording was then, realtime left intact, edited towards an associative play of foreground and background of the sonic parts. As they were recording the sessions at places known to their ears, they could react but also anticipate on events happening around them.
The seven pieces develop different perspectives -using instrumental sounds in the foreground, weaving them into the background, placing the microphones upfront- resulting in a vivid urban conversation.
